Due to the violent content of nature, only the non-grusome pictures are displayed here. There are no pictures of a half-squished, half-digested, slimy-enzymed covered unidentifiable creature within the trap of a plant. Both pictures below were taken in early spring a year or two apart. There's just so many bugs out there the traps are fighting for every inch of free space! Think of it as the animals' gateway to hell...literally. Once trapped in the "pitcher", if they don't eventually drown, they'll suffer a slow death as the enzymes released by the plant ever so gradually break down the soft tissues of the bug. Nothing like a slow death for the mesquito who wouldn't leave you alone. ![]()
John Wyndham's book, "Day of the Triffids", gives us plants that stand up to 10 feet tall and attack people with the intention of wiping out the human race. They want sole possession of this planet. No humans. Just Triffids and Triffids alone. In their immature stage, these plants have a sticky center to hold and digest animals. As the plants grow, they hobble along the ground in a clumsy but effective manner. Upon maturity, the possess a tongue-like appendage that springs out at unsuspecting victims, stinging them with deadly poison. Their presence is preceded by an omnious, continuous clicking sound -- the Triffids communicating with each other. This sound foreshadows the eating of a decomposed victim. Will you be next? |
